L’Albanie est un pays d'une richesse culturelle impressionnante, plein de curiosités uniques en leur genre et propice aux découvertes.

Pétrie dans le moule méditerranéen, l’Albanie a connu le rayonnement de toutes les grandes civilisations riveraines : Grecs, Romains, Byzantins, Ottomans, et les premiers d’entre tous, les Illyriens, ancêtres directs des Albanais. Tous ont combattu pour le contrôle de cette terre stratégique, tous ont marqué de leur empreinte les côtes comme le cœur du pays : l’Albanie déborde de richesses archéologiques.
Le caractère accidenté du territoire en a longtemps fait le bastion de toutes les résistances. Le plus vaillant d’entre tous, Skanderbeg, héros de la lutte contre les Turcs, y a amarré sa foi nationaliste. Les hommes ont appris à vivre en autarcie, selon la rigueur du Kanun, le code d’honneur qui mena à tant de vendettas.
L'Albanie dresse une frontière naturelle entre l’Orient et le cœur du continent européen.
L’Albanie ne compte que 20 % de terres arables, regroupées sur la plaine littorale ouverte sur l’Adriatique et, tout au sud, sur la mer Ionienne. La façade maritime s’adosse en plusieurs endroits à de vastes lacs. Celui de Shkodra, partagé avec le Monténégro, est le plus vaste de tous les Balkans. Au sud, vers Saranda, la Riviera albanaise n’a pas usurpé son nom, tant les plages sont belles.
Dernière frontière de l’Europe, l’Albanie, presque vierge de développement touristique, attire enfin l’attention grâce à sa côte ensoleillée, ses richesses naturelles et culturelles.

- Population : 3 047 987 habitants (estimation 2017).
- Densité : 105 hab. / km².
- Capitale : Tirana. La ville et ses banlieues regroupent environ 20 % de la population du pays.
- Chef de l’État : Ilir Meta (depuis juillet 2017).
- Statut : République. L’indépendance a été obtenue le 28 novembre 1912 au moment de la dislocation graduelle de l’empire ottoman.
- Monnaie : le lek.
Religion : majorité islamique (environ 65 %) ; aussi des orthodoxes (environ 20 %) et des catholiques (environ 13 %).
- Ethnies : population homogène, avec 95 % d’Albanais pour 3 % de Grecs et 2 % d’autres origines (Valaques, Roms, Bulgares, Macédoniens). Les Albanais se divisent eux-mêmes en deux groupes : Guègues (Nord) et Tosques (Sud).
Sites inscrits au Patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco : Butrint (1992) ; les centres historiques de Berat et de Gjirokastra (2005) ; les forêts de hêtres des Carpates et d'autres régions d'Europe (2017).

Formalités d'entrée

Les ressortissants de l’Union européenne, les Suisses et les Canadiens se voient accorder un séjour de 90 jours sans nécessité de visa, sur simple présentation de leur passeport valide au moins 3 mois après la date de retour (pour les Suisses, 3 mois après la date d'arrivée en Albanie).
Pour les ressortissants de l'Union européenne, la carte d'identité suffit. Mais attention : pour les citoyens français, l'extension de 5 ans de la durée de validité de la carte nationale d'identité n'a pas été officiellement reconnue par nos autorités albanaises.

Durée de vol direct depuis Paris : environ 2h40 ; vols directs Paris-Tirana de mai à octobre ; sinon 4h30 de vol avec escale.
